DARREN Minchington was elevated off the rookie list before St Kilda’s round 20 clash against Hawthorn, also his AFL debut.
Prior to this, the 19-year-old’s form in the VFL was excellent, playing roles largely as a creative forward with spells through the midfield.
Minchington kicked one goal in each of his two games and didn’t look out of place at the highest level, demonstrating his natural football ability against both 2012Grand Final teams.
Development coach Tony Micale:
“Darren had a really good start to the season in the VFL, got injured, came back and played some more excellent footy for Sandy.
He played games against Hawthorn and then Sydney. With Milney retiring, he will be looking to make that small forward spot his own next year.
He’s got great speed, is hard at it and has terrific skills, so he has all the attributes. He just needs to buildhis physicality and endurance up, so pre-season is critical.”
