St Kilda captain Jarryn Geary has undergone a procedure today to repair a minor facial injury incurred in Sunday’s Marsh Series win over Collingwood.

The club expects the 31-year-old to return to training at the end of the week and push for selection in Round 1.

St Kilda Chief Operating Officer Simon Lethlean said Geary would be given every chance to take his place against the Kangaroos.

“We will wait to see how he is later next week before making a call, but with the weekend off our expectation is Jarryn will be there in Round 1,” he said.

Geary impressed in Sunday’s Marsh Series win, with his pressure in defence helping to keep the Magpies to just 12 scoring shots.

The important leader endured a frustrating 2019 campaign, marred by compartment syndrome and a broken leg.

His return, alongside Dylan Roberton, Jimmy Webster and Jake Carlisle, along with the arrival of Dougal Howard, will see the Saints’ backline transition from one of youngest in the league to one of Brett Ratten’s most experienced lines in 2020.
