Consistency will define St Kilda’s 2020, according to senior coach Brett Ratten.

Now, coming off the back of an emphatic win over the Western Bulldogs, the Saints will look to put in an equally competitive effort against flag-fancies Collingwood this Saturday.

Last time we met…

Collingwood 17.10 (112) def. St Kilda 10.11 (71)

The Saints held sway with the Magpies right up until three-quarter time, before the black-and-white army put the foot down to overrun the visitors with a six-goal deluge in the final term.

The standouts...

Rowan Marshall’s stellar in-season form was on show against the elite ruckwork of Brodie Grundy. The Portland Prospect recorded 24 hit-outs and 16 disposals before the dual-All Australian wrestled his way on top in the last.

Midfielders Luke Dunstan (30 disposals), Jack Billings (29) and Jack Steele (25) found plenty of the footy against the star-studded midfield, with Dunstan amassing a game-high nine clearances.

Tim Membrey was deadly up forward with four majors, Jade Gresham relished his time in the midfield with nine inside-50s, while Shane Savage in his 150th was classy across half-back with 25 possessions and a booming goal.

The Magpies had no shortage on contributors across the afternoon, but it was hard to look past Brodie Grundy’s 49 hit-outs and 24 disposals (18 contested).

Nathan Buckley’s men were particularly strong at the stoppages (26-18) with skipper Scott Pendlebury (27 disposals), Dayne Beams (30), Adam Treloar (38) and Steele Sidebottom (29, two goals) getting to work.

Jack Crisp (27 touches) mirrored Savage’s precision across half-back for the entire afternoon as Brody Mihocek got the ball rolling with four majors.

Moment of the match...

Debutant Robbie Young booted his first goal in style at the home of football, blazing away with a memorable celebration in front of the 60,000-strong crowd.

History repeating...?

Tim Membrey's safe hands have been on show in his past three outings against the Magpies, notching up 21 marks to go alongside his six goals.

Round 2 recap…

Brett Ratten officially recorded his first win as St Kilda’s senior coach last Sunday as the red, white and black pieced together an electric performance to put the Bulldogs to the sword.

New recruits Zak Jones (29 dispsoals) and Dan Butler (two goals) starred under the roof, while Jack Billings was sensational with 24 touches and three goals.

The Magpies were forced to split the points with Richmond in last Thurday’s season restart, and will be intent on getting back on the winners list this weekend.

Collingwood booted four goals in the opening quarter before been held to just the three points in the second half.

The ins and outs...

Former Magpie Jonathon Marsh will make his first senior appearance of 2020, coming in for skipper Jarryn Geary (hamstring).

The Magpies are set to welcome back Jaidyn Stephenson and Rupert Wills for their first game of the year, with Jack Madgen and Josh Thomas making way for the returning duo.

The Magpies’ marvels...

Collingwood feature as flag fancies for a reason.

In a star-studded line-up, it’s hard to single out who could be the most damaging to St Kilda’s hopes of a second win.

Brodie Grundy’s versatility, skill and ascendency through the centre reliably gives the Magpies’ mids first use, but against the combined force of Paddy Ryder and Rowan Marshall, could have his influence curbed.

Midfielders Scott Pendlebury and Steele Sidebottom were at their prolific best against Richmond, while Jeremy Howe was elite down back thanks to his high-flying and exceptional vision.

A quiet Jordan De Goey from Round 2 looms as an ominous prospect for the Saints, especially with shorter quarters coming into play.

On the injury front…

Collingwood came out from last week’s hit-out with no complaints, while the Saints lost skipper Jarryn Geary to a minor hamstring strain.
