St Kilda’s AFLW side has been bolstered by the addition of former Navy Blue Jayde Van Dyk on day one of AFLW Trade Period.

Van Dyk joins the Saints through a swap of third round draft selections after the talented defender endured an injury-interrupted 2020 campaign.

The 24-year-old played every game for Carlton in 2019, including the history-making Grand Final in front of a packed Adelaide Oval.

Van Dyk finished sixth in the club’s best and fairest count in her debut season after being a member of Hawthorn’s premiership winning VFLW side in the season prior, before an ankle injury limited her availability in the 2020 AFLW Season.

Jayde Van Dyk played nine games in Season 2019 for Carlton, including the Grand Final against Adelaide.

Head of Women’s Football Jamie Cox said Van Dyk was an important pick up for the young and exciting Saints.

“Jayde is a really smart defender who we are really pleased to bring to the St Kilda Football Club,” he said.

We have a lot of young talent on our list who played some exciting footy in our inaugural season but heading into the trade period our focus was on adding some experience and strength to our defence.

“Jayde is a quality footballer and person who offers exactly that and we are thrilled to be welcoming her to RSEA Park”

Van Dyk joins the Saints with the club also receiving Carlton’s third round selection which currently sits as the 42nd overall selection (24 in Victoria’s state-based draft).

In exchange, the Saints have sent selection 36 (21 in Victoria) to the Blues.

The Saints currently hold draft selections No. 6 (Vic 4), No. 22 (13), No. 42 (24) & No. 50 (29).
