TEN Saints polled votes in Monday’s Brownlow medal, with Leigh Montagna registering 16 – the same number as he finished with in 2010 when he was named in the All-Australian team.

St Kilda’s 2013 Trevor Barker Award winner, Jack Steven, added to his career tally of one vote with a further eight this year. His 38-disposal game against Carlton and his 47-possession effort against Fremantle each yielded two votes – with Nick Riewoldt and Leigh Montagna also enjoying strong performances in both of these matches and earning best afield honours from the umpires.

Montagna’s one week suspension following the final match of the season made him ineligible for the award, so Steven’s eight votes made the 23-year-old St Kilda’s highest placed finisher in 37th position.

Other Saints who polled votes included David Armitage (4), Jarryn Geary (2), Lenny Hayes (2), Stephen Milne (2) and Nick Dal Santo, Ben McEvoy and Jason Blake all with one.

Blake’s vote in St Kilda’s round 23 win over Fremantle was his third career vote in 219 AFL matches and came in his final AFL game. It followed on from his historic two votes against Gold Coast in round 11, 2012 – breaking an AFL/VFL record 210-match vote drought.

Altogether St Kilda Football Club registered 42 votes across the board.
