St Kilda Football Club advises captain Jarryn Geary has sustained a fractured fibula during a training session on Friday morning.

Geary left the track following a marking contest, with X-rays soon after the session confirming a clean fracture low down in his left leg.

Chief Operating Officer Simon Lethlean said Geary will undergo surgery this afternoon and would hope to be back running in around six weeks.

“Unfortunately, X-rays confirmed a fracture, which means Jarryn will be sidelined for a number of weeks,” he said.

Knowing Jarryn, he will do everything he can to be back as quickly as possible to contribute to the team in early 2021.

“Given his previous injuries, it’s obviously frustrating to encounter another setback. But the positive for Jarryn is that he’s been here before, and we have full faith he’ll attack his rehab with the same professionalism and intensity we know he brings.

“We had a number of guys step up last year and take their opportunities, and this year will be no different.”

The important leader endured a frustrating 2019 campaign, marred by compartment syndrome and a broken leg, but remained largely injury-free in 2020, leading the Saints through to their first finals appearance in nine years.
