The 19 year old was impressive in his first taste of AFL, gathering eight disposals and laying four tackles.
Cousin of Essendon Captain Jobe Watson, the emerging midfielder told saints.com.au the increase of speed was the main lesson he took away from the game.
“I came on at half time and the boys had already put a fair bit of a distance between them on the board so not to take away from the fact that they’ll be a very good side in the coming years but probably the main thing I learnt was the step up in pace,” Ross said post game.
“Most of the boys I was playing against were the same age as me so I sort of felt a bit more comfortable but they’re a good side.”
Ross revealed he had spoken to the Saints veterans prior to the game for some advice which made him slightly more at ease heading into his first game.
“I spoke to most of the leaders before the game like Rooey (Nick Riewoldt), BJ (Brendon Goddard), Dal (Nick Dal Santo), Joey (Leigh Montagna) and they just had a few little words to me and Lenny (Hayes) and obviously just made it a bit easier for me to get into it.”
The youngster made his debut the same weekend as Thank You round whereby the Saints acknowledged their faithful supporters, and had a simple message for them:
“Thanks for the support and hopefully you sign up next year because it’s an exciting future.”
