When Doulton Langlands was told he had to kick a goal at training to earn his debut, the Saints could only break into hysterics as his first shot at the big sticks unbelievably hit the post.
But the big-bodied midfielder seized the moment when it counted in the red, white and black, slotting a memorable goal in his first game against the Western Bulldogs in Round 18, 2017.
The Albury product played a further two games for the year after enhancing his game as an inside midfielder in the VFL for Sandringham.
Heading into the new year, the re-signed Saint reaped the rewards of his diligent pre-season.
Langlands finished second in both of the club's 3km time-trials; the first of which was done in under 10 minutes and beat his personal-best by a whopping 40 seconds.
The No. 46 has continued to build his form and consistency in the Saints' reserves side through the midfield and half-forward line, with a three-goal bag against Carlton marking his best performance of the year.
Langlands was selected by St Kilda with pick No. 8 in the 2017 Rookie Draft.
