His first-ever career win and an incredibly consistent run of form had Nick Coffield on the up, before a dislocated shoulder ended the young defender’s 2019 campaign.
The composed half-back got the call-up after illness swept through the Saints’ camp on the eve of Shanghai Showdown, performing strongly to lock down a spot for a further seven games.
Coffield's run has continued into Season 2020, with Brett Ratten backing in the agile and comparatively inexperienced defender to perform in the Saints' new-look backline brigade.
The No. 1 has delivered so far – alongside fellow youngsters Hunter Clark, Ben Paton and Ben Long – to lead the club for marks and intercept marks.
Standout performances against Carlton (20 disposals, nine marks), Adelaide (17 disposals, seven marks) and Essendon (19 disposals, 10 marks) have highlighted Coffield's upward trajectory and the assuredness he is now playing with.
Coffield was selected by St Kilda with pick No. 8 in the 2017 National Draft.
