Local products Marcus Windhager, Mitch Owens and Max Heath have all secured their futures at the Saints, signing new two-year contracts this week.

Windhager and Owens will remain at the club until at least the end of 2025, while Heath will stay in red, white and black into 2024.

Head of List Management James Gallagher said the trio would form an important part of the Saints’ list moving forward.

“We’re thrilled to have Mitch, Marcus and Max commit to the club for the next few years,” Gallagher said.

“Mitch, Marcus and Max have been friends with childhood through school and sport, so to see them sharing a locker room here at St Kilda is really special.

“Marcus was recovering from a back injury when he was drafted, and the determination and commitment that got him through his rehabilitation has remained into his playing career.

“He’s an incredibly hard worker who has shown maturity beyond his years in his approach to life as an AFL footballer.

“Mitch a quiet achiever in many ways, but we’ve been really impressed with the way he’s asserted himself on-field. while supporting his teammates.

“He’s a hard, physical player, who has been very proactive in fast-tracking his development by learning from those around him.

“Max’s first few months saw him balancing footy with his final year of school.

“He’s been hard at work honing his ruck craft under the guidance of Head of Learning Development, Damian Carroll as well the other coaches and ruckmen Paddy, Rowan and Tom.

“We’re confident that all three boys have laid the foundations for a successful career at the Saints, and we look forward to seeing them grow and develop over the coming years.”

Owens and Windhager were taken with picks 33 and 47 in the 2021 AFL National Draft, while Heath joined the club in the 2021 AFL Mid-Season Draft.
