Jack Bytel will remain a Saint after signing a one-year contract extension with the club.

The new deal locks in a fifth season at St Kilda for the 22-year-old, who has played 16 senior games since being selected at pick No. 41 in the 2018 NAB AFL Draft.

The inside midfielder didn’t feature at AFL level in 2022 after 13 matches in 2021, spending the bulk of his time in the VFL following a two-month foot setback.

He notched up a solid season for the Zebras, however, averaging 25 disposals, seven clearances and six tackles across 12 games.

“We’re pleased to offer Jack a new deal and have him with us for 2023,” Head of List Management James Gallagher said.

“Jack has continued to show us what he is capable of in his games for Sandringham. Our hope for him next year is to really see this transfer to the training track and then senior selection.”

Bytel's re-signing follows those of fellow youngsters Tom Highmore and Jack Peris in recent weeks, with the Saints to carry picks 9, 28, 32 and 47 into the 2022 NAB AFL Draft, which will be held on 28-29 November.
