Tim Membrey

Seven disposals, two marks, two tackles

It was good to see Timmy get through unscathed. He ran pretty well and competed in the air. He was a little bit rusty with his skills and touch as you'd probably expect, but the boys loved playing with him and gave good feedback, so it was good to get one under the belt for him. He stayed involved for most of the game and had a good team-first attitude in bringing his mates into it which was really noticeable. We got a goal off him for bringing the ball to ground against four opponents, so his attitude and mindset was great.

James Van Es

11 disposals, five rebound-50s, three marks

Big Jim played a good game and it was a step forward for him. Numbers don't tell a story for most, especially defenders, but he was aggressive in what he had to do. He had a real intent of not having a leg-rope too far with his opponent and always having him in close check. At Sandy when the ground is so small and it can travel from end-to-end really quickly, you can't afford to take too much space for too long. We've been working on that and he's been putting in the hard yards and we're starting to see some good results out there.

He took three intercept marks, but probably dropped another three sitters, so if he had have taken those it would have been a really promising result for him. We're just challenging him to keep using his frame as a real weapon and keep throwing his body in, because no-one's going to be bigger or stronger than him. He's already a massive lad, so if we can turn that aggression dial up to 90, 95 per cent, he's well on the way.

Leo Connolly

19 disposals, five clearances, four inside-50s

Leo's improving as a midfielder and it's something I can see us continuing with. He's had four weeks as an inside mid now, and while it probably wasn't the game for someone with Leo's weapons to really shine through, his ability to ramp up his contested work, take the ground-balls cleanly and drive through the tackle cut through. That's been a really big focus for him. He's been doing the work with Brendon Goddard and Damian Carroll and we're starting to see it out on the track, and that should give him good confidence that it's going well. BJ's really happy with the amount of bodywork that he's doing. He's not going to be a bash-and-crash player, but he still needs to be able to be in a position to use his strengths.

Jack Peris

13 disposals, eight tackles, two goals

Jack played as a high half-forward once again and he just keeps turning up front-and-centre at aerial contests, so he's doing his job. He chased and harassed with seven tackles and kicked two goals as a small forward, which is a good result, but it's all off the back of getting to where he needs to and his work-rate. That was really pleasing. Playing on Ikon Park this week, it's a good opportunity to use his running capacity as a weapon.

Max Heath

33 hit-outs, 10 tackles, four clearances

Moose battled hard. He just needs to keep improving and keep taking his opportunity to be the number one man. We probably expected him to get on top of an undersized ruckman relative to him, but he had his hands full for most of the day. He was a bit clumsy with free kicks inside defensive-50 which comes a little bit down to technique, but he's improving his positioning around the ground. His centre bounce stuff was pretty good and his follow-up was also strong, which is his one-wood.

Tom Highmore

21 disposals, 11 rebound-50s, six tackles, one goal

Tommy had a bit of an inconsistent day. He had some good contest work, but a couple of times didn't defend as tight as we would have liked. We wanted to use the contested numbers and density as another players for us, and at times he did that really well for us. We just need to keep reminding him to be really aggressive and physical as much as he can.

Oscar Adams

Eight disposals, four rebound-50s, three tackles

Oscar all in all had an ok game. He had a poor second quarter and had some concentration lapses, but the pleasing thing was that a couple of weeks ago he would have struggled to get back involved in the game and stay present. This week, he did, and managed to finish off the game well. There's a few specifics around bringing the ball to the front and knowing when to play back shoulder versus front shoulder which we can keep working on, but the pleasing thing was his mental performance which was a good progression for him.
