St Kilda’s dare and aggressive ball movement may have deserted them in the middle of the season, but it has been rediscovered in the last fortnight.
Across the two wins over Gold Coast and North Melbourne, St Kilda has recaptured their boldness out of the back half, ranking No. 3 in the competition for converting rebound 50s into forward entries at 30.6 percent.
15.3 percent of St Kilda’s scores in the last two weeks have started in the defensive 50 – ranked No. 3 and well above the competition average of 7.0 per cent.
St Kilda has used the second least disposals per score in the last two games – 12 per score – highlighting the Saints more efficient ball movement on transition.
Rebounding defenders Leigh Montagna and Dylan Roberton have been St Kilda's two main architects behind the ball.
Dual All-Australian Montagna has accumulated an average of 540.4 metres gained (No. 3 for general defenders) in the last fortnight, while Roberton is averaging 521.7 metres gained (No. 7 for general defenders).
Montagna used his 22 disposals against the Suns at an efficiency rate of 90.9 percent, while Roberton collected six rebound 50s on Sunday night.
The wheel has started to turn back in the Saints’ favour.
