In a nod to a bygone era, St Kilda has launched a retro range of woollen jumpers available for purchase.
The 100% merino wool product has been carefully grown and hand-shorn by Victorian farmers and manufactured in St Kilda’s bayside heartland.

The material is part of a range that includes a heritage guernsey, beanie, scarf and gloves – the perfect way to rug up for those cold winter games.
Long-time St Kilda supporter and manufacturer Hugh Lyon said historic techniques were used to sew the guernsey, which has been carefully put together by his small family-run business in Mordialloc.
“The business was started by my father more than 60 years ago and he started a knitwear company on his kitchen table,” Lyon said.
“The business drifted off to the printed jumpers, but now we’re back to doing the woollen retro football jumpers that we’ve known and loved for many years,”
“We knit the fabric, then steam it and then cut it out and it is sewn on the various machines. It takes much more time and experience because you have to physically manipulate studs and colours and stripes and it’s all very hands on – none of this computerised modern technology.”
The guernsey is made from premium wool that is low micron meaning it is soft and comfortable and it isn’t prickly or itchy.
