St Kilda has secured the 21-year-old, as well as P.26 and P.47 from the Gold Coast Suns in exchange for the Saints’ P.13, P.37 and P.57.
This trade leaves the Saints with P.25, P.26, P.46 & P.47 at the 2012 AFL National Draft in addition to Hickey and Tom Lee (Claremont FC) as players secured during the trade period.
Selected by the Gold Coast Suns in 2010 as a zone selection, Tom Hickey made his debut in 2011 against Adelaide in Round 22 and has played ten senior games for the Suns.
Recruited from Morningside (Qld), the 201cm ruckman represented Queensland in junior volleyball before switching sports to AFL as a teenager.
St Kilda Head of Football, Chris Pelchen said, “We are extremely pleased to have acquired Tom from the Gold Coast Suns. At only 21 years of age, we feel Tom still has significant football development ahead of him and along with Ben McEvoy, will provide the Saints with a strong ruck combination for the future.
"It has been widely acknowledged that St Kilda was seeking to complement its ruck stocks and securing Tom was identified as a priority during the 2012 Gillette AFL Trade Period."
