St Kilda Football Club is delighted to welcome Liam Ryan to the red, white and black, with the premiership forward today officially joining the club following a trade with West Coast.
In return for Ryan’s services and West Coast’s Future 3rd Round pick (2027), St Kilda parted with its Future 2nd Round pick (2026).
The proud Yamatji Badimia man arrives at RSEA Park after 125 games with the Eagles, where he quickly became one of the AFL’s most electrifying players and a key part of their 2018 premiership side.
Renowned for his high-flying marks, sharp goal sense and ability to turn games in moments, Ryan adds a dynamic edge to the Saints’ forward line while also bringing leadership and experience to a developing group of small and mid-sized forwards.
“I’m really excited to be joining St Kilda and taking on this next chapter in my career,” Ryan said.
“There’s a great energy about this group, and you can feel the hunger to improve and do something great. I want to bring my experience and help spark the forward line but also keep learning and pushing myself to be the best I can for the team.
“I was also really drawn to St Kilda’s strong First Nations programs and culture. The Saints have one of the largest First Nations groups of any club, and to play alongside guys like Bradley Hill, Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera and Marcus Windhager, who are making an impact both on and off the field, was a huge drawcard for me.
“On a personal level, moving to Melbourne also presents great opportunities for my young family. Having the chance to build this next stage of our lives in such a supportive environment was a really important part of my decision.
“My time at West Coast, and the chance to be part of a premiership, will always hold a special place in my heart. I’m grateful for the friendships, lessons and support I received there, but I know I’ve got so much more to give. I’m excited to bring those experiences with me to St Kilda and put everything into this next chapter.”

St Kilda Chief Executive Officer Carl Dilena said Ryan’s recruitment was an exciting addition to the Saints’ mix.
“Liam is a proven match-winner with unique talent. His aerial ability, creativity and football instincts make him a player fans love to watch and teammates love to play with,” Dilena said.
“Just as importantly, he is a respected First Nations leader in the AFL. His experience and voice will further strengthen our club’s proud commitment to First Nations programs and to creating an environment where players can thrive both on and off the field.
“We’re thrilled to welcome not only Liam, but the entire Ryan family, to St Kilda. Their presence will be embraced by our community, and we know together they will add enormous value to the fabric of our club.”
