Serene Watson has cemented her standing as one of the AFLW’s premier defenders, tonight earning selection in the 2025 AFLW All-Australian team.

The St Kilda vice-captain built an outstanding season across half-back, combining her intercepting strength with poise, decision-making and an increasingly commanding presence in the Saints’ defensive unit.

AFLW General Manager Jessie Mulholland said Watson’s selection was fitting recognition for a strong campaign.

“We’re really proud of Serene. This is great recognition for a hard-fought season,” Mulholland said.

“On field, Serene is a calming and reliable presence down back, proving herself dependable time and time again.

“Off the field, she is a flourishing leader who has embraced the vice captaincy and taken real ownership of her development and influence.

“Knowing that she’s only just turned 24 should be exciting not only for Saints fans, but for all fans of AFLW. There is so much still ahead of her.”

Watson was one of St Kilda’s most consistent contributors in 2025, averaging 22 disposals and featuring in all 13 games, including the club’s maiden AFLW final. She led the Saints for intercept marks, kicks, disposals, rebound 50s and kicking efficiency, underlining her impact across the ground and her importance to the team’s continued growth.
