St Kilda has secured its first player acquisition of the 2025 Trade Period, with key forward Sophie Butterworth landing at Moorabbin after two seasons at Hawthorn.
The Saints acquired Butterworth’s services, as well as the Hawks Pick 87, in exchange for Pick 67 and St Kilda’s future fourth round selection.
Selected with pick No. 45 in the 2023 Telstra AFL Draft, the 181cm emerging youngster made six appearances in the brown and gold, showcasing exciting promise as a dynamic aerial threat with strong marking ability and composed ball use.
Last featuring in the Hawks’ semi-final loss to Carlton, the 19-year-old will be a welcome addition to Dal Santo’s side, bringing with her athletic prowess set to bolster the Saints’ forward line alongside Jesse Wardlaw, J’Noemi Anderson, Zoe Besanko and Captain Hannah Priest.
Hailing from Mornington, Butterworth’s impressive draft year saw her represent Vic Country including being named in the Girls Talent League Team of the Year.
