Callum Wilkie is a test to face Richmond this weekend after the co-captain suffered a significant knee to the back during the second quarter of St Kilda’s loss to Gold Coast in Darwin.
The key defender briefly returned to the field before being ruled out of the game at half-time.
“Cal will be given every chance to play this week,” GM of Football, Lenny Hayes said.
“He had a scan when we arrived home and has been cleared of any internal damage.
“Ultimately, he’ll need to get through main training on Friday to be ticked off to face the Tigers.”
Meanwhile, Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera is set for a short stint on the sidelines after further investigation revealed a minor calf strain for the midfielder.
The 23-year-old pulled up sore following the Carlton game after copping a knock to his lower leg. Initial scans were inconclusive, with the club giving the young Saint every opportunity to prove his fitness ahead of the Darwin match.
“We gave Nas every opportunity to get up for Saturday night, but ultimately decided to err on the side of caution,” Hayes said.
“Despite presenting with minimal pain, results from his latest scan have confirmed a minor strain.”
Liam Ryan will also spend a short period in rehabilitation after sustaining a low-grade calf strain during a training session over the weekend.
Positively, Jack Higgins and Paddy Dow have both progressed well through concussion protocols and will also be listed as tests this week, with the pair required to get through main training.
Additionally, draftee Kye Fincher has been ruled out for the next six weeks after presenting with foot soreness following Sandringham’s VFL clash on the weekend, with scans confirming bone stress.
