St Kilda Football Club can confirm co-captain Jack Sinclair has avoided an Achilles injury, with scans confirming a high-grade calf injury during yesterday’s match.

The defender was assisted from the ground in the opening minutes of the game, with scans today confirming the diagnosis.

Sinclair will miss an extended period and will be re-assessed over the coming weeks to determine a timeline for his return.

Recruit Tom De Koning was admitted to hospital during the game on Sunday, with scans revealing two fractured ribs and a punctured lung.

The initial assessment at the time of injury showed no signs of internal damage, however following re-assessment at half time, the club’s medical team made the decision to send De Koning off for further assessment to rule out internal concerns, with scans later revealing the extent of his injuries.

The club will continue to seek specialist advice over the coming days for the 26-year-old, and will provide a further update post the coming bye.

Meanwhile, Rowan Marshall has been cleared of serious injury after undergoing precautionary scans following the match.

Marshall suffered an injury to his shoulder, but was able to return to the field with taping and finish the match.

Marshall will be re-assessed after the bye.

“It’s really disappointing for Jack and we’re all behind him as he begins his recovery,” General Manager of Football Lenny Hayes said.

“Jack has done a terrific job since being elevated to co-captain this season and we know he'll continue to provide an important leadership and support role within our group off the field throughout his recovery.

“Despite Tom initially showing no signs of internal damage, our decision to send him to hospital was taken with every precaution. Tom's health and wellbeing remain our number one priority, and we will be right behind him as he navigates this challenging recovery.

“We’re pleased that Rowan has been cleared from serious damage, with the bye coming at an opportune time for him to rest and recover.”

The club will provide further updates in this week’s injury report.
