The boys revealed all when they were guests on Radio Carrum last week, a local community internet radio station based at Carrum Primary School.
The pair sat down with Grade 5 students who put the hard questions to them for their ‘Footy Frenzy’ segment, which airs every Tuesday and Friday.
10-year-olds Jack Carmichael, Dylan Ridgway and Lucas Wilkinson, and 11-year-olds Hugo Clarke and Riley O’Brien did their research with questions ranging from Tom’s debut to Sam’s history.
“It was a really enjoyable experience to play my first game in front of so many people,” Tom recapped on his debut in round 11 in the 2011 season.
“Personally I didn’t really get nervous or timid, I was just really excited to get out there.”
“I came on as the sub so I had a couple of quarters to get used to and watch the tempo from afar. Hopefully I can do it again.”
Hugo questioned Sam on whether or not he would have liked to have been drafted by Essendon under the father-son rule as his father Frank was a premiership player for the Dons.
“I did some training with Essendon in the pre-season but I think St Kilda just got there first,” Sam said.
“I think Essendon said they were going to take me later but it’s a first in best dressed how it works and I’m happy to be at St Kilda. It’s better!”
The kids pushed the limits and cheekily asked about players’ girlfriends and contracts.
