Two of St Kilda’s most promising young guns will be fully fit and firing come the return of the AFL season.

Ben Long and Jade Gresham went down in the Saints’ Round 1 loss to North Melbourne but are both expected to play senior football in Round 2 – whenever that may come.

In a makeshift press conference conducted from his backyard, senior coach Brett Ratten today confirmed both indigenous talents are well on their way to recovery.

“Longy’s seeing a physio up in Darwin every couple of days,” he said.

“He normally would’ve missed 3-4 weeks with that ankle, so he did a good job to finish the game for us. He’s going well.”

Meanwhile, Gresham sat out the entire second half after suffering the minor PLC injury.

“Gresh is walking around pain-free and doing exercises. He’ll probably run in about a week, and he would’ve missed around six weeks if we kept playing,” Ratten said.

“He should be right – with everything going to plan – to return when the games get going again.”

St Kilda players and staff will be in self-isolation until at least 31 May after a league-wide shutdown period was announced.
