Stephen Milne couldn’t think of anywhere he would rather be than playing on the park in the red, white and black.
The small forward re-committed to the club, signing on for another year at the Saints.
“Time flies when you’re having fun and to be a one club player is something that I’m pretty proud of,” Milne said.
The 32-year-old will enter his 13th season at the club next year but says his age is no barrier to playing the game.
“At the start of this year I was pretty sore, my hammys were blowing up a little bit but once the games got going I was starting to feel a lot better and I started running out game a lot easier the second half of this year.”
After being picked up in the 1999 Rookie draft, the goalsneak has since gone on to become the fourth highest goal kicker in the Saints’ 139 year history, kicking 540 goals.
Among his 256 games, he counts the three Grand Finals over 2009 and 2010 as his most memorable football moments.
“Getting in the grand final a couple of years ago just that feeling that you’re going to be in the last day in September is a feeling that I want to have again and chase that feeling through the pre-season and all the games next year.”
He is among an elite group of five small forwards in the league’s history to have kicked more than 500 goals, this year crediting his teammates for St Kilda’s success in the forward line.
“Saad and Terry Milera are going really well. For those guys to come in, they would have been happy to play 13-14 games each this year as mature age recruits and they’re really good kids and they’re going to play a lot of good footy for this footy club and Schneids (Schneider) had a bit of a down year this year with injury so he’s going to be a bit of bonus for us next year.”
