FEW entities can claim to have lasted as long as the St Kilda football club.

Buildings, institutions and even some countries have fallen short of reaching 140 years, but in Saints’ case it is another significant milestone in the rich history of a proud club.

The Saints will be celebrating their 140th birthday with a function at Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre that will re-live all the moments that built the club to what it is today.

The Saints’ Hall of Fame will also have a new inductee with the club’s games record-holder Robert Harvey to join 41 other St Kilda identities.

Harvey played 383 games and kicked 215 goals in a career spanning 21 years for the Saints from 1988 to 2008.

He won four club best and fairests, eight All-Australian selections, three E.J. Whitten medals and the 1997 and 1998 Brownlow medals in one of the most decorated careers in the history of the VFL/AFL.

Three existing Hall of Fame members will also be elevated to join Darrel Baldock, Ian Stewart, Allan Jeans and Tony Lockett as official legends of the club.

All current players and coaches will be in attendance, as will many of the people who have contributed to the Saints’ history since its inception in 1873.

Tickets are on sale for what promises to be a spectacular evening celebrating everything red, white and black.
