Speaking exclusively to Saints TV, Ross Lyon has given an insight into the six new players selected in the 2010 NAB AFL Draft who have now arrived at St Kilda to prepare for 2011.

On the draft strategy…

“The simple strategy was an aim to draft midfielders specifically. We wanted them to be speed endurance athletes with a quality kick, but most importantly we wanted them to have the ability to go through the midfield to add pace to group ball winning.”

His thoughts on the draft overall…

“In hindsight we feel we’ve taken care of the future, with our four young selections, and taken care of the present.“

On what the players can bring to the Saints…

Pick #24 Jamie Cripps - “We really feel he should be able to break into the senior team (in 2011) and we are really excited to get him.”

Pick #43 Sam Crocker - “One of the best kicks in the Draft who will really add to the skill and speed of the group.”

Pick #59 Tom Ledger - “A real speed endurance athlete who can really swerve through traffic.”

Pick #74 Arryn Siposs - “Based on pure talent he was the best player at that pick, a real exciting prospect.”

Pick #90 Ryan Gamble - “Been in the elite system, trying to break into one of the greatest teams of all time, and we think he can really slot into our front half structure.”

Pick #103 Dean Polo - “A real tough player, hard running and hard working, and he can certainly give us some more depth through our midfield.”
