ST KILDA president Greg Westaway will step aside from the role at the end of 2013.

Westaway announced at Wednesday’s Annual General Meeting that he would relinquish the presidency in 12 months time.

The founder of Gregorys Transport has held the Saints presidency since the end of 2007 when he took over from Rod Butterss.

In addition to his presidency, Westaway has been a member and sponsor for more than 20 years.

After graduating from Christian Brothers College in St Kilda in 1958, Westaway embarked on a career in sales, eventually landing a job with Melbourne Taxi Trucks in 1963.

Westaway has stayed in the transport industry ever since and in 1982 started his own company Gregorys Transport. What began as a modest local courier business with six cars soon expanded and Gregorys now has more than 550 trucks and 88 full-time staff.

Westaway’s time as St Kilda president has been significant, overseeing a change of board and the appointment of senior coach Scott Watters at the end of 2011.

His presidency covered two Grand Final finishes and an AFL-first in organising the first game to be played for points outside Australia when the Saints take on the Sydney Swans on Anzac Day, 2013.

Westaway’s departure comes shortly after the Saints announced an operating profit of $631,135 for the financial year ending October 31. The operating profit was part of a $2,131,907 turnaround in the space of 12 months.
