“We obviously had the long break for the Monday game so the boys trained really well and there was just a good vibe coming into the game.”
“We just worked on our team defence during the week because it’s not up to individuals to beat the inside midfielders and the uncontested footy; it’s a team defence thing so we focused on that.”
Goddard, who ended the game with 24 disposals at a 92% efficiency rate, was prominent in the second half and knew it would be a tough game to win.
“It was a hard fought win; we obviously knew the Blues were in pretty good form coming off some good wins so we knew we were in for a fight tonight.”

The Saints are now back in the top 8 after last night’s win, but will quickly need to re-focus on their next challenge, a round 8 encounter against the first-placed West Coast Eagles.
Goddard believes his team will be ready to go.
“We fly out Friday so we’ve actually only got two days at the footy club this week so it’s obviously going to be all based around recovery.”
“It’s going to be a difficult challenge but the boys are up for it.”
