Young St Kilda ruckman Ben McEvoy has been featured alongside other hot AFL prospects in a new book by journalist Emma Quayle. ‘The Draft’ is released this week and goes behind the scenes to tell the inside story on all aspects of the drafting process.

While many AFL fans know of the draft process, few know the strategy that clubs employ to fill their lists with young talent each October. Quayle takes you to the inner sanctum and answers all of the important questions including how a club determines whether a prospect has what it takes, whether a player will fit a club’s requirements, what it’s like to be interviewed by an AFL coach and whether a player has the mental toughness to succeed at an elite level.

Drafted by the Saints in 2007, McEvoy is interviewed at length about his experience in the draft and how he came to end up at Moorabbin.

Other featured players include Trent Cotchin, Cyril Rioli, Brad Ebert and Patrick Veszpremi – as well as an in-depth look at the Hawthorn Football Club and how they revitalised their list after a lean spell in 2004.

Published by Allen & Unwin, ‘The Draft’ by Emma Quayle is out this week for a RRP of $29.95.
