The St Kilda Football Club today announced the appointment of Michael Nettlefold as Chief Executive Officer, effective Monday 27th April.

St Kilda President, Greg Westaway said, “The St Kilda Board believes that Michael brings proven business acumen and a strong football pedigree to the role. He is an ideal replacement for Archie Fraser.”

The Board appointed Michael as Executive Director and he will continue on the Board of Directors.

Greg Westaway said, "The Board acted swiftly to replace Archie and while these are big shoes to fill we believe we've found the best person for the job. Michael's experience, management style and existing relationships are a great asset for the St Kilda Football Club."

"Michael has been close to the club for many years and thoroughly understands our strategy and processes. We've been impressed with his commitment and passion for St Kilda. I am confident that all projects maintain the required momentum.

Greg said, “When this Board came into power we committed to putting 'Football First' and Michael’s appointment reflects this.”

Archie Fraser will complete a transition of his existing responsibilities before joining the FFA as Head of the Hyundai A-League.

Michael joined the St Kilda Board in 2000 and stepped down in 2001 prior to a period of considerable change in the St Kilda ranks. In 2008 he returned to the Club that he played 43 matches for between 1979 and 1983 (in addition to 31 matches for Fitzroy).

The Nettlefold name has been a driving force in the outdoor media industry for the best part of 50 years. Prior to accepting the CEO position, Michael owned a group of private companies with national operating activities in food manufacturing, retailing and the health care sector.

Ross Lyon said, "As far as football is concerned this a great result. I've been working closely with Michael, Nathan Burke and Andrew Thompson for the best part of 18 months and they've all added considerable value to our Club and helped us create a winning formula for the future.”

“Michael's proven track record and understanding of how a football club operates will ensure that St Kilda grows and builds on the progress achieved already," Lyon added.

Michael will hold a press conference on his first day in the job (Monday 27th April) to brief the media on his plans and vision for the Club.
