AFLW Academy player Rebecca Ott has been elevated to St Kilda’s senior roster for the remainder of Season 2021.

The former Melbourne Boomer (WNBL) replaces Nicola Xenos in the 30-woman squad, with the latter joining Clara Fitzpatrick on the club’s inactive list.

St Kilda lodged an application for an injury-replacement player with the AFL following Xenos’ season-ending ACL injury on the stroke of Round 1.

“While it’s disappointing to lose Nicola for the year, we’re very pleased to welcome Bec into the Saints family,” Head of Women’s Football Jamie Cox said.

Bec is an elite basketballer, currently with the Knox Raiders, and an impressive athlete who knows first-hand what it takes to excel at the elite level.

“We’re optimistic that her inclusion will strengthen our defensive stocks for 2021, particularly given Clara is unavailable for this year through circumstances beyond anyone’s control.

“We look forward to seeing what Bec will be able to produce for St Kilda and we wish her all the best for the year ahead.”

The 183cm talent will form part of the Southern Saints squad this year, but will continue her WNBL1 commitments for the Raiders later in the year.

Ott will assume the No. 20 guernsey for Season 2021.
