Jade Gresham will miss the remainder of Season 2021 after suffering a rupture to his Achilles tendon during yesterday’s match against Essendon.

The 23-year-old sustained the injury in an innocuous incident five minutes into the second quarter, immediately grabbing his lower right leg before being assisted from the ground by club medical staff.

Gresham will undergo surgery on Tuesday to repair the ruptured tendon, with the expected recovery time approximately nine months.

The midfielder missed the second half of last season with stress fractures in his lower back.

“We’re really disappointed to have lost Jade for the season, particularly off the back of yesterday’s performance,” Chief Operating Officer Simon Lethlean said

“Jade is an integral part of our midfield and we had high hopes that he’d continue to have an important impact moving forward.

“This is obviously really disappointing for Jade and we’ll ensure he is receiving all the necessary support throughout his rehabilitation.”

Gresham joins defender Ben Paton (broken leg) in being ruled out for the entire season.

Meanwhile, Zak Jones is likely to be available for selection after receiving a slight strain to his ankle late in the game.
