Monterey Secondary College is now accepting applications for its Silvertop Sports Science Academy in 2022.
Led by ex-Saint Trent Dennis-Lane and run in partnership with St Kilda Football Club, the Silvertop Sports Science Academy (SSSA) is an innovative academic and sporting program that offers an unparalleled level of top-level coaching, mentoring and support.
The program launched for Year 7 students in 2021, marking the first in-take of participants after the initiative was first announced in December 2019.
SSSA supports student athletes to develop their sporting ability through an academic lens.
The program incorporates athletes' code knowledge, strengths and conditioning, match-play, nutrition and dietetics, biomechanics and health science knowledge, both from a theoretical and practical perspective.
Students engage with their Academy program for the equivalent of one day a week, with the traditional school curriculum making up the remainder of the school week.
The Academy predominantly targets athletes from AFL and netball, but focuses on general athletic excellence and supports athletes from all disciplines.
