Irishman Liam O’Connell has been thoroughly enjoying his time Moorabbin since joining the club in 2023 as a Category B rookie.

The Gaelic football star from County Cork and Ballincollig was initially scouted out by the club’s former High Performance Manager and fellow Irishman Nick Walsh, with a subsequent trip from the Saints’ list team in Stephen Silvagni and Graeme Allan to the Emerald Isle getting a true reading on the youngster’s potential.

O’Connell made his senior debut in Round 1 of 2025 and added six further matches, with his highlight coming in Round 2 where he took a match-saving mark in defence to help his side over the line against eventual grand finalists, Geelong.
