The Saints & Movember have teamed up to bring Ahead of the Game to sporting clubs across Melbourne’s South.

Movember Ahead of the Game (AOTG) is one of Movember’s most successful programs aimed at young men. This program aims to improve youth mental health through community organised sport and targets adolescent male mental health by engaging with the whole community around the local sports club.

HOW IT WORKS:

Ahead of the Game is a 3-step Mental Health resilience program designed with input from young male athletes, coaches, and families for those very same groups.

MENTAL HEALTH LITERACY

Help out a Mate (for Adolescent Males)

  • Introduces participants to common Mental Health Problems
  • Teaches them to lookout for signs that a teammate or friend might be struggling
  • What they can do to help
  • 1 hour workshop

Number 1 Supporter (for Parents/Guardians)

  • Designed to increase parents knowledge about adolescent Mental Health and Wellbeing
  • Provides information on:
    • How to promote positive Mental Health
    • How to start a conversation about Mental Health
    • What to do if your concerned for your teenager
    • Where to seek help
  • What they can do to help
  • 1 hour workshop

Know your athletes (For coaches)

  • Introduces participants to common Mental Health Problems
  • Teaches coaches how to look out for signs that a team member of colleague might be struggling and what they can do for help
  • 1 hour workshop

MENTAL HEALTH RESILIENCE

Your path to success in sport (for players)

  • 1 hour workshop supported by online modules
  • A sport psychology program to help teenagers identify and develop skills for managing the challenges that sports (and life) can present

AWARENESS CAMPAIGN

Community Clubs & Players (for adolescents, parents/guardians and coaches)

  • An awareness campaign rolled out through participating clubs
  • Clubs to be provided collateral (including posters and banners) to be placed around the club
  • Goody bags for all adolescent participants
