Lucy Burke has officially been elevated to St Kilda’s AFLW Primary List.

The 23-year-old Southern Saint – who is of no relation to teammate Alice Burke – was recently named at centre half-back in the 2021 VFLW Team of the Year, and earlier this year finished sixth at the club’s Best & Fairest.

Burke replaces rookie selection Paige Price in the Saints’ 30-woman squad, with the latter placed on the inactive list following hip surgery.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Lucy to St Kilda,” Head of AFLW Tessie McManus said.

“Lucy isn’t a stranger to majority of our list having played for the Southern Saints this season, and despite her limited preparation, we believe she’ll slot right in.

We’re confident Lucy will be a great asset to the club, particularly coming off half-back where she can complement the likes of Hannah Priest and Tilly Lucas-Rodd.

“While it’s unfortunate to lose Paige to injury, we will continue to support her as she completes her rehabilitation.”

Burke played all 16 matches for the Southern Saints in 2021 – including two finals – in her debut season for the club, averaging 10 disposals and three rebound-50s per game.
