Jarrod Lienert has officially been added to St Kilda’s rookie list on the penultimate day of the pre-season Supplemental Selection Period (SSP).

The former Port Adelaide defender first arrived at RSEA Park in mid-February, taking part in last month’s intra-club and official practice match against Carlton before earning the Saints’ one remaining list spot.

Lienert, 27, played 23 senior games for Port Adelaide after joining the club with pick No. 42 at the 2017 Rookie Draft.

“We’re pleased to be able to give Jarrod another opportunity at AFL level,” Head of List Management James Gallagher said.

“We believe Jarrod’s skillset and ability to play as both a medium and tall defender, as well as push up further along the wing, will add further depth to our defensive stocks.

“As we’ve seen this week, injuries can occur at any time and Jarrod will be a handy option for us to have throughout the year.

“In the short time he’s been at the club, he’s gelled well with his teammates and coaches and we look forward to seeing the impact he’ll continue to bring as we approach Season 2022.”

Lienert, who will wear the No. 31 in red, white and black, joins former Port Adelaide teammates Dougal Howard and Paddy Ryder, as well as former assistant coach Brendon Lade at St Kilda.

The Saints have the option of opening up an additional list spot should they decide to move the injured Nick Coffield to the club’s inactive list.
