In an interview on SEN today, Sam Fisher revealed that the St Kilda Football Club had succeeded the 20,000 Members milestone.
Fisher urged supporters to get behind the team and Draw a Line in the Sand by being a Member in 2012.
“There’s no reason why we can’t be pushing up there again this year. Get behind us, there’s some exciting things happening down at the Club.”
Saints defender Sam Fisher said the arrival of new coach Scott Watters was like the first day of school.
“Returning for pre-season was like the first day of school … it was a fresh start and everyone was anxious waiting to see what Scott was like.”
The 2011 Trevor Barker Medallist explained that with the new coach brought an opportunity for a clean slate at the club with every player having an equal opportunity to stand up and prove themselves.
“Even for the older guys’ who had their spot cemented it’s a fresh start and everyone’s got to prove themselves to the coaches with how you go about training, how you lead...”
“There’s been a big turnover in the past 2 years it’s sort of given everyone, especially those guys on the fringe, a new lease on life, some enthusiasm and chance to play at an elite level”.
The 29 year old, who is approaching his 8th season at the Saints, said that the new coaching and fitness staff have brought with them a new energy to the Club.
Whilst he admits the pre-seasons never get any easier, he said there’s some real enthusiasm and excitement around the Club, especially with some former Sainters returning in specialist roles this year.
“It’s good to see guys like Aaron Hamill back at the Club. We’ve also got Max Hudghton back who was a great part of my career. I’ve played a lot of footy with Max and look up to him so it’s great to have him and others back.”
St Kilda’s AFLW program has made further changes to its list ahead of the 2025 National Draft with Arianna Clarke and Lilu Hung informed they will not be offered a contract in 2026.
