St Kilda Football Club proudly supports Blue Ribbon Day, held this Sunday 29 September.
SAINTS.com.au spoke to our charity partner this week to spread awareness for the cause.
“We’ve got police who go out there and do a pretty challenging and often dangerous job for us and they see the worst the community has to dish up. Blue Ribbon Day is about setting aside a moment each year to remember those who have paid a price beyond measure for giving u s law and order,” Victoria Police Blue Ribbon Foundation CEO Neil Soullier said.
“The day also sends a message to all our serving police that the community appreciates and values their work.”
Victorians are invited to pause for a few moments on Blue Ribbon Day to remember those members of the Police force who have paid the ultimate price in the line of duty.
In their honour, all monies raised for Blue Ribbon Day are donated towards projects that benefit all Victorians.
“We wanted to make sure in their memory we can continue their service to the community so we put money into our public hospitals, into new and improved emergency facilities and then we name those units after fallen members of the police force so we call it a program of ‘remembering lives by remembering others’. More importantly, it continues that service that those members were doing before they were killed.”
“Police can’t do the job themselves, sometimes there’s the expectation that ‘okay, we’ve got a police force and they’ll save all of the communities problems but in reality that’s not going to happen. We need to work alongside police to ensure we have a safe community we all want to live in.”
Blue Ribbon Day badges can be purchased from Police Stations, 7-Eleven stores, BankVic branches, Bank of Melbourne branches, RACV shops, Stockdale & Leggo Real Estate offices and selected RSL Clubs.
