A number of emerging talents will get the opportunity to secure a Round 1 berth for the Saints when they host Essendon at RSEA Park on Friday.

Ross Lyon's faith in the next wave of Saints is already on show, naming draftee Mattaes Phillipou and pre-season Supplemental Selection Period (SSP) signing Anthony Caminiti in the starting forward set-up.

The teenage pair impressed in last week's match simulation against the Demons, each hitting the scoreboard and providing aerial presence in the absence of their experienced teammates.

Another SSP recruit, Liam Stocker, has been named on the bench after competing well across half-back. Second-year Saints Mitch OwensMarcus Windhager and Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera have also earned their place in the line-up.

Ryan Byrnes was one of the Saints' best afield in a half-forward role against the Demons, kicking the first goal of the afternoon and winning plenty of footy. The 21-year-old is named on a wing.

Rowan Marshall will shoulder the bulk of the ruck load as the only recognised ruck, with support from Mitch Owens and Zaine Cordy. Seb Ross (managed) will watch from the sidelines.

The official practice match will follow standard AFL rules with four quarters of action, commencing at 4:10pm. Teams are allowed to field an extended eight-man bench.

Entry is FREE and non-ticketed. For those unable to make it, watch the game live on Fox Footy or Kayo.
