Speaking before Saturday's match against GWS at Etihad Stadium, Watters was excited about the prospect of so many youngsters forcing their way into the senior side this year.
“Most of the players outside of Sebby Ross, who will debut today,
they’ve had a pretty good taste of footy this year and today we have
all of them in at one time [this afternoon],” he said.
“It’s going to be exciting for us, we are going to learn some things
about them and throw a few of them into some different roles.”
One of these youngsters who will be given an opportunity today is five
gamer Jack Newnes, Watters told Triple M:
"[Newnes] will line up on one of their very good ball winners in the
middle of the ground so there is an example of someone who will get a
really good education today.”
Watters was equally bullish about Seb Ross’s debut this afternoon
after his strong recent form in the VFL, and said that if it weren’t
for a minor hamstring tweak five weeks ago, he may have played earlier
in the season.
“[He’s] very composed in traffic, naturally just a really good
clearance player, sees the game really well, left footer and still has
a little bit more work to do with another pre-season. We hold pretty
high hopes for him.”
“We’ve got a hell of a lot to get out of today,” he said. “We have 10
or 11 players that have played under 20 games so they’re starting to
forge a career. We are pretty excited about that."
