Opal Little Saints Cup
The Opal Little Saints Cup is a girls only inter-school football carnival aimed at encouraging young girls to give football a go in a fun and safe environment.
A round-robin tournament featuring young females in Grades 5 and 6, the multi-day event aims to provide girls a fun introduction to football with friendship, participation and teamwork at its heart. While also promoting the benefits of physical activity, the current female football pathways within the region and introduce positive role models/AFLW players into the schooling environment.
With modified rules and guidelines, games allow engagement in an unstructured, less competitive environment and instead encourage participation, fun and social interaction as an appetiser to ongoing participation.
Over 200 primary school students have participated in the event of the first two years of the initiative; many of whom received their first taste of football with friends by their side.
