Dougal Howard has suffered an injury blow, with the key defender set to miss the next 6-7 weeks after injuring his hamstring in the final moments of Friday night’s game against Carlton.
The setback comes just weeks after Howard made his return to play in Round 8 following a pre-season shoulder injury that required surgery.
“This is really disappointing news for Dougal,” Executive General Manager of Football David Misson said.
“He’d worked incredibly hard to get his body right after a long rehab from shoulder surgery, so to cop a hamstring injury in the final two minutes of the game is extremely unfortunate.
“While it's definitely a frustrating setback, we know Dougal will approach this rehab block with the same level of professionalism and intent he’s shown throughout his career.”
Mason Wood will put his hand up for selection this week having graduated concussion protocols. The 31-year-old will need to complete full contact training during tomorrow’s main session to put his hand up for selection this week.
Dan Butler is also a test this week after making strong progress in his Achilles injury recovery. The dynamic forward will also face a fitness test during tomorrow’s main session.
“It’s pleasing to have both Mason and Dan tracking well and in a position to potentially be available for selection this week,” Misson said.
Additionally, 2024 draftee Patrick Said will join the squad for full training tomorrow in his comeback from a calf strain.
