St Kilda has named its 26-man extended squad ahead of Sunday's clash with Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park.

Veteran Dan Butler has been named on the field in the extended squad to head to Alice Springs as he looks to play his first game of the season.

Butler had previously been working to overcome an Achilles injury before playing a vital role in Sandringham's thrilling draw against Gold Coast in the VFL over the weekend.

Similarly, Jack Carroll has been named on the extended bench for the first time this season after starring with 28 disposals and two goals in the same clash.

Carroll joins both Angus Hastie and Max Heath on the extended bench, who were both named as emergencies for the AFL side last weekend.

Darcy Wilson has been omitted from the side.

The final team will be announced at 5:00pm AEST on Friday.

The game will be played at 3:20pm AEST on Sunday, and will be broadcast live on Channel 7, 7plus and Kayo.
