St Kilda young gun Hugh Boxshall has capped off an impressive first season by being named the Round 22 Telstra AFL Rising Star nominee.

The 19-year-old held his own in the Saints’ win over Richmond on Saturday, gathering 14 disposals at an impressive 93 per cent efficiency.

“We are really proud of Hugh for how he has approached his first season at the club in all aspects, and this nomination is fantastic recognition of that,” EGM Football David Misson said.

“Hugh’s ability to come in, take lessons on board, and apply them week to week has been outstanding. We are excited about what he can achieve across his career if that continues.”

The West Australian product also recently signed a contract extension, committing to the red, white and black until at least the end of 2028.

“I have loved every second of my time here since making the move after the draft,” Boxshall said.

“The coaches and my teammates have been incredibly supportive and so generous with their time and knowledge.

“I just want to keep doing everything I can to get better over the next few weeks, before turning my focus to a big pre-season heading into my second year at the club.”

Boxshall was selected by the Saints with Pick 45 in the 2024 National Draft.
