VFL Senior Coach Brendon Goddard provides an update on the AFL-listed players that represented Sandringham against Richmond on Saturday.
VFL MATCH CENTRE: Round 20 v Richmond
TIGERS 5.2 10.2 16.6 18.7 (115)
ZEBRAS 2.3 8.5 8.5 11.8 (74)
Alex Dodson
35 disposals, 41 hitouts, seven clearances
Alex was terrific against the Tigers. He dominated in the ruck early with his craft and then had a great battle through the game. His ability to follow up and the work below his knees is great for a big guy and he continues to make good decisions around the ball and around the contests.
Jack Carroll
35 disposals, 11 clearances, eight inside 50s, six tackles, six score involvements
Jack admittedly probably started slow and then really got going after half time and used his ability to impact around the contest winning clearance and contested footy, especially after losing Paddy (Dow). He really stood up and found his footing when we needed him.
Tobie Travaglia
23 disposals, nine tackles, six intercepts, four tackles inside 50
Played a solid all-around game playing across half back and in the midfield. He was clean around the footy and made some great decisions where he was able to have a real impact for us as a midfielder as the game went on.
Liam O'Connell
21 disposals, eight tackles, eight clearances
Liam’s best game as an inside midfielder in the VFL this week. He showed outstanding leadership and communication with his teammates and he has improved his stoppage craft and ability to win the ball through the middle of the ground.
Angus Hastie
26 disposals, six marks, five inside 50s
This was Angus’ first game back after a good stint in the AFL. He had some impact with the footy using his strengths such as his speed and agility but will continue to work on his defensive craft and developing a defend-first mentality as a high half back.
Arie Schoenmaker
18 disposals, six marks, five inside 50s, one goal
Arie showcased a real aerial strength playing on the wing where he had some great moments and kicked one of the goals of the VFL season. We’ve really liked his ability to play as a wingman and execute his role within our system and he’s continuing to learn that as he develops.
Zaine Cordy
17 disposals, seven intercepts
Similar to Jack (Carroll) in that he admittedly had a bit of a slow start but got going after quarter time. He’s a real leader for everybody across the ground and proves so valuable to our young team overall. He was able to go forward in the last quarter and provide us with an option which he has shown he has the ability to do over his career.
Isaac Keeler
12 disposals, 10 hitouts, five score involvements, one goal
It was his first game back from injury and showcased his talents in the ruck and up forward where he was getting used to returning to matchplay. He was our most experienced forward down there for the majority of the night so showed some good leadership and helped get the structure organised for those around him.
James Barrat
16 disposals, 11 intercepts, five marks, one goal
Another good step forward for James and his defensive craft and all-round game. He’s had a good couple of weeks against some strong opposition key forwards and continues to take learnings out of every game.
Paddy Dow
20 disposals, three score involvements
Paddy was again a really strong contributor until he hurt his shoulder which was really unfortunate to see. His form over the last month had him firming for senior selection but he’ll be able to heal quickly and be ready to get back to his best over pre season and into 2026.
Lance Collard
10 disposals, five tackles, four clearances, one goal
A slightly different role for Lance as a high half forward. He showed his strengths in his ability to run, chase and tackle and contribute in and around the midfield which we can see him playing a bit more of with his ability around the contest. He’s continuing to work on his all-round game but has shown flexibility with the different roles given to him.
Angus McLennan
13 disposals, five intercepts, four tackles
Gus keeps showing his strengths week on week and is able to be cool and calm with the ball when required. His ability to impact the game in the air is a real positive and he’s now just working on trying to impact the game offensively.
Eamonn Armstrong
Eight disposals, two marks
It’s been really exciting to see the development of Eamonn since he’s come across from Ireland. He played across defence in the first half before moving forward which comes really naturally to him so it was great to see once again.
