St Kilda is set to play in their first VWFL Grand Final after a convincing win against an undefeated Richmond team in last Sunday's Qualifying Final at the State Netball and Hockey Centre in Parkville.

The Saints finished second on the ladder after the regular season with five wins and three losses, only going down to Richmond twice and Collingwood in the last round. The Saints will be playing the Tigers in the decider.

Captain Nick Briant reflected on the season and what it means to make their first grand final.

“We came into pre-season knowing that we would have to work hard to get to a fitness level to compete with the best teams and I think we have shown that by knocking off the undefeated Tigers to qualify for the Grand Final," Briant said.

"We have tried a few different things structurally and we have found a winning formula that we will carry into the Grand Final. Young vice-captain Seb Welsh and ex-Tiger Ben Noble have been standouts this season with Seb leading the Saints goal scoring and Ben slotting in nicely in the middle."

St Kilda's Community Wheelchair team were unfortunately knocked out in an Elimination Final against the Bombers.

In a tough season with many new faces, the Saints strung a few wins together with their best result coming against reigning premiers Collingwood at our annual Spud's Game at RSEA Park. Newcomers to the team, James Bowles and Tim Ford were impressive in their first season at the club.

The VWFL Grand Final will be held on Sunday 17th August on the Show Court at the State Netball & Hockey Centre in Parkville with tip off at 2:30pm.
