Paddy Dow has undergone surgery after suffering a broken collarbone during Sandringham’s loss to Richmond in Frankston on Saturday night.

The midfielder collected 20 disposals before being subbed off with the injury, with scans later confirming a fracture following a collision against the Tigers.

Dow was in in his seventh game back in the VFL and was closing in on an AFL return, having been named in St Kilda’s 26-man squad on the weekend.

The 25-year-old is set to be ready for a pre-season following a run of injury trouble, including a horrific pre-season knee infection requiring multiple surgeries.

“It’s an extremely frustrating setback for Paddy, who had already experienced such a traumatic start to the season with his knee infection,” EGM Football David Misson said.

“We’re all behind him as he works through this next chapter of rehab and are excited to see him put his best foot forward as he builds towards a full pre-season campaign.”

Additionally, SSP recruit Harry Boyd is also set to undergo surgery after sustaining a bone stress injury in his tibia.

Versatile utility Ryan Byrnes has avoided surgery after suffering a midfoot sprain following the Round 21 win over North Melbourne. The 24-year-old will be rested for the next 1-2 weeks and will miss the remainder of the season.

Positively, Mitch Owens has also avoided surgery after specialist consultation following a hamstring strain. The key forward is progressing well and is expected to be primed for a full pre-season.

Meanwhile, Jimmy Webster and Patrick Said are both closing on a return to full training following their respective calf injuries.
