Ryan Byrnes has entered a rehab block after injuring his foot during the Saints’ AAMI Community Series match against Essendon.

The 24-year-old’s injury settled quickly, allowing him to begin the recovery process immediately, however his progress will be closely monitored.

“Ryan had a strong pre-season, so to face this set back is frustrating but he’s a professional who will attack this period strongly,” GM Football Lenny Hayes said.

“Ryan is an influential leader among our playing group and there’s no doubt this will continue as he works through his rehab.”

Rowan Marshall has entered concussion protocols after receiving a head knock in Sunday night’s game against Collingwood.

The 30-year-old left the ground just before three-quarter time and did not return.

Hunter Clark and Paddy Dow will each spend a short stint on the sidelines after showcasing impressive performances in the Saints’ VFL practice matches.

Clark suffered a low-grade adductor injury against Williamstown on Saturday while Dow will require a period of de-load after pulling up with knee swelling following the Saints’ previous VFL hit out against Essendon.

Meanwhile, Liam Henry, Liam O’Connell and Max King have all continued to make positive progression in their respective rehab programs.
