On the eve of his 100^th game for the club, Shane Savage has recommitted to the Saints on a one-year deal.

The 28-year-old has played every game this season, with his experience playing a vital role in shaping St Kilda’s young and emerging backline.

“In a season that has seen a lot of change for us, it’s been great to have Shane as a constant,” St Kilda List Manager James Gallagher said.

“Shane provides great speed and kicking ability from our back half. His importance to our team has been recognised by opposition sides several times this year.

“He’s the ultimate professional both on and off the field, and that’s been reflected in his performances this season.

“With the likes of Roberton, Carlisle and Geary out for long periods, Shane has been our most experienced defender nearly all year, and the influence he’s had on our younger players has been invaluable.

“While we look to grow players like Josh Battle, Callum Wilkie, Darragh Joyce and Ben Paton, it’s critical we have guys like Shane around to show them the way.”

The rebounding right-footer said he was looking forward to another year in the red, white and black.

“I’ve loved my time at the Saints so far and am very grateful for the opportunity to extend it,” Savage said.

“I’ve really relished taking on more responsibility over recent years, and working with our younger defenders has reinvigorated my love for the game.

“I’m also at a point in my life where playing footy is about more than just me.

“Coming into the rooms after a win and seeing my kids and having them sing the song with us; there’s no better feeling than that. I’m really excited to continue share that with them.”

Savage was originally selected by Hawthorn with pick No. 75 in the 2008 National Draft, before making his way to St Kilda at the end of the 2013 season.
