Sam Rowe racked up a game-high 59 hitouts for Sandringham over the weekend.

A 59-hitout performance from Sam Rowe has fast-tracked his chances of a late senior call-up, with Jimmy Webster hot on his heels for a return.

Both were among the best afield for the Zebras on Sunday afternoon, battling through miserable conditions to give their side every opportunity for a long-awaited win.

Rowe racked up 16 disposals to go alongside his best-on-field rucking display, while Webster chimed in with two goals and 15 touches.

But despite their efforts, the Zebras were unable to come away with the win, going down by 36 points to Port Melbourne.

SAINTS FALL TO BLUES: Ratten rues missed opportunities, praises Saints duo

Oscar Clavarino (13 disposals, four marks) was proficient down back and thwarted many Borough assaults despite the blustery conditions, while Ed Phillips (20 disposals, seven tackles) pieced together another serviceable performance along the wing.

Bailey Rice thrived in the wet to chalk up 11 tackles and 16 possessions, joining 50-gamer Brandon White (17 disposals) in generating movement from the defensive end.

It was a gritty affair from siren to siren, with Sandringham collecting a total 128 tackles.

Goals were few for the Zebras as a result, but Robbie Young and Doulton Langlands hit the scoreboard with a goal apiece.

VFLW: Southern Saints surge to top of the ladder

Despite noteworthy performances from several Saints, Webster and Rowe have done their chances at a late senior berth no harm.

Webster is yet to see senior action after persistent hand and back injuries curbed his season in Round 8, while a promotion for Rowe would see him notch up his 100th game at the SCG.

Sandringham will play its last game for the season next Sunday against the Northern Blues at Ikon Park.
